The Dazatronyx Big Fuzz is a fuzz pedal from Melbourne, Australia, built as an evolution of the classic Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi circuit. What sets it apart from a straight clone is a Mids knob on the outside and a set of internal switches that change how the gain stages behave, so one pedal can cover a wide spread of vintage Big Muff territory rather than a single voicing1.
Delicious Audio, which profiled the pedal in November 2022, calls it "a well-respected Big Muff evolution with an extra Mids knob and a few mods available in the s[tandard] build"1.
A Big Muff-style fuzz with a mids knob
The Big Fuzz is, at heart, a Big Muff. Delicious Audio quotes the builder's own framing: "The Big Fuzz is a muff circuit, which has been made to factor all of my favourite elements from the many various models"1. That means the familiar Big Muff character, long sustain and a thick, saturated wall of fuzz, is the starting point, and the pedal's additions are there to shape it.
The headline addition is the Mids knob. The original Big Muff circuit is known for scooping out midrange, which gives it its huge, dark sound but can also let it disappear in a band mix. Delicious Audio explains the knob's purpose directly1:
"The Mids knob is one of the features more common in Big Muff variants, allowing it to overcome the original circuit's infamous mid-scooped character."
Electro-Harmonix itself went the same direction with its Deluxe Big Muff Pi, which the maker lists as a fuzz with "added features like a Bass Boost, Noise Gate, and adjustable Mids section"2. The Dazatronyx approach puts the mid control on a simpler pedal without the Deluxe's gate and boost section.
The controls and voicings
Externally, the Big Fuzz keeps the Big Muff's control layout and adds the Mids knob. The real voicing work happens inside1:
- Mids knob: restores midrange the stock circuit scoops away, helping the fuzz sit in a mix1.
- Gain-stage switches: internal switches that alter the pedal's gain stages, moving between different Big Muff voicings1.
- Standard-build mods: further options available in the standard build, which Delicious Audio notes bring "improvements to user interaction, which are otherwise lacking in traditional builds"1.
The gain-stage switches are what give the pedal its range. Delicious Audio describes the spread1:
"This goes from the Russian style lower gain, which is famously a bit smoother and proportionately warmer in the top-end."
Combined with the Mids knob, the switches mean "you can achieve tones alike to most releases" of the Big Muff family1. A player who wants the smoother, warmer Green Russian character can set the switches for lower gain; a player chasing a more aggressive vintage voicing dials the other way.
Where it came from and where it went
Dazatronyx is a hand-built pedal maker based in Melbourne1. The Big Fuzz was the builder's take on a single, playable Big Muff evolution, and it later grew into something much larger: the Dazatronyx Big Fuzz Console, a breadboard-style development tool and multi-fuzz pedal that RockBoard's PedalPedia entry describes as "designed for ultimate Big Muff tone-shaping"3.
The Console essentially unrolls the classic four-stage Muff circuit and puts its component values, transistor choices and clipping options on the front panel, allowing "precise recreation of any vintage variant (Triangle, Ram's Head, Russian, etc.) or the creation of entir[ely new custom fuzz profiles]"3. Delicious Audio calls it "a deeply thoughtful, fully analog development tool that invites you to look under the hood of why classic fuzz circuits behave the way they do"4.
Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson spent a series of 2026 sound-shaping sessions with the Console, recreating voicings including the 1969 V1 Triangle Big Muff and the V2 Violet Ram's Head, and concluded of the platform567:
"it consistently delivers my favourite Big Muff tones - this is for sure the Ultimate Big Muff Pedal, and one of the very best Multi-Fuzzes of all time!"
Of the Violet Ram's Head recreation, he wrote that "the Violet Ram's Head core output has a wonderful zing to it - and I feel my preferred settings sound pretty spot on"6.
The Big Fuzz and the Console are separate products: the Big Fuzz is a conventional pedal with a Mids knob and internal switches, while the Console is the full experimental platform3. A player who wants a straightforward Big Muff with a mid control starts with the Big Fuzz; one who wants to rebuild every vintage voicing from component values up moves to the Console.

Questions
What circuit is the Dazatronyx Big Fuzz based on?
It is based on the classic Big Muff circuit. Delicious Audio describes it as a muff circuit built to combine the builder's favourite elements from the many Big Muff models, with internal switches that change the behaviour of the gain stages so a player can move between vintage voicings.
What does the mids knob do on the Dazatronyx Big Fuzz?
The Mids knob is an extra tone control that lets the pedal overcome the original Big Muff circuit's mid-scooped character. Turning it up restores midrange that a stock Big Muff cuts, helping the fuzz cut through a mix. Combined with the gain-stage switches, it lets the pedal achieve tones resembling most Big Muff releases.
Does the Dazatronyx Big Fuzz have a Russian-style mode?
Yes. The gain-stage switches include a Russian-style lower-gain voicing, which Delicious Audio describes as famously a bit smoother and proportionately warmer in the top end than other Big Muff voicings, moving through to higher-gain settings at the other end of the range.
Is the Dazatronyx Big Fuzz Console the same as the Big Fuzz?
No. The Big Fuzz is a standard fuzz pedal with a Mids knob and internal mods. The Big Fuzz Console is a separate, larger breadboard-style development tool and multi-fuzz pedal that exposes the four-stage Muff circuit's component values, transistor choices and clipping options on its front panel for tone shaping.
