The Electro-Harmonix Pico Shimmer is a compact digital shimmer reverb pedal released in 2026 at a list price of $149.001. It puts three variations on the shimmer theme into the Pico Series' smallest enclosure, described by Delicious Audio as "three very different shimmer reverbs in a box smaller than your phone"2. Shimmer, in short, is reverb with pitch-shifted overtones layered into the tail, and the Pico Shimmer builds on the shimmer concepts of EHX's Oceans Reverb pedals1.

The pedal combines reverb, modulation, delay and synthesis in one signal path, and each of its three Scenes uses a different signal chain, so the three modes are distinct effects rather than three flavors of one algorithm1. A press-and-hold on the footswitch gives you infinite reverb on the fly, freezing the tail while you keep playing over it1.

What it does: three shimmer scenes in a mini pedal

The Pico Shimmer is the latest entry in Electro-Harmonix's Pico Series, the brand's range of super-compact digital mini pedals that use DSP to fit some of EHX's most interesting designs into their smallest form factor56. Premier Guitar calls it a pocket-sized pedal inspired by the popular Shimmer settings on the award-winning Canyon Delay and Oceans 11 Reverb7.

Each Scene is a complete effect with its own signal chain1:

  • Intergalactic: classic shimmer made up of polyphonic octaves, reverb, modulated delay and compression, with a string synthesis engine added1
  • Off-World: a smoother, mellower shimmer with enhanced delay modulation and vintage synthesizer textures1
  • Etherdust: a glitch shimmer where the delay time is randomized, creating stutters ranging from short granular sparkles to distinct glitch echoes1

The Scene button cycles through the three modes, and the LED color indicates which one is active: green for Intergalactic, orange for Off-World and red for Etherdust, with the LED off in bypass mode18. Holding the Scene button engages Secondary Knob Functions, which Guitar Pedal X reports provide eight variable parameter controls in total18.

The three scenes in detail

Intergalactic is the classic shimmer of the three. MusicRadar describes it as built from "polyphonic octaves, reverb, modulated delay and compression" plus a string synthesis engine5. Within this Scene, the VOICE knob morphs the reverb character from a clean plate reverb at its minimum, through classic shimmer at noon, to ethereal strings at its maximum, which Guitar.com sums up as a way to "create cinematic atmospheres beyond time and space"14.

Off-World is the mellow option. EHX describes it as a smoother, mellower shimmer with enhanced delay modulation1, and Gearnews found that with this algorithm the sound is more diffused and the delays more heavily modulated, with a retro feel9. MusicRadar's reviewer heard vintage synth textures in this Scene3.

Etherdust is the experimental one. The delay time is randomized, so the reverb tail stutters and breaks up; Gearnews describes the result as stutter effects and granular delay-like sounds9, while MusicRadar's product page calls it the "glitchy" option where a randomised delay time is applied to the reverb tails5.

The controls

The pedal keeps the Pico Series' small-panel format: four knobs, a Scene button and a footswitch13.

ControlWhat it does
BLENDAdjusts the wet/dry mix from 100% dry to 100% wet1
TIMEControls reverb decay time from short to infinite1
TONEAdjusts the overall brightness of the effect1
VOICEMorphs reverb character from plate to shimmer to synth1
SCENE buttonCycles through the three Scenes; press and hold to engage Secondary Knob Functions1
FootswitchEngages or bypasses the effect; press and hold for Infinite Reverb1

The Secondary Knob Functions are where the depth lives. Holding the Scene button remaps the four knobs, and MusicRadar reports that in this mode the controls adjust Reverb Mix, Delay, Depth and Rate5. Guitar Pedal X counts eight variable parameter controls across the pedal's normal and secondary modes8. MusicRadar's reviewer also highlights the Infinite Reverb as a powerful tool, "freezing your reverb and notes whilst you continue to play over it"3.

Power and connections

The Pico Shimmer is a mono pedal: one 1/4" TS input and one 1/4" TS output, with an input impedance of 2.2MΩ (max input +1.5dBu) and an output impedance of 680Ω (max output +2.1dBu)13. Guitar Pedal X notes it is a mono Pico pedal rather than stereo, aimed at mini boards, and that the writer wished it had been stereo overall8.

Power comes through a 9VDC power jack, with a current draw of 100mA at 9.0VDC, and a 9.6VDC-200mA power adapter is included in the box1. Guitar.com reports the pedal ships with a standard EHX 9V power supply4.

The 100mA current draw at 9.0VDC is on the higher side for a mini pedal, so check your pedalboard power supply's per-output budget before daisy chaining it with several other digital pedals1.

Where it comes from: the Oceans Reverb and the Pico Series

The Pico Shimmer's algorithms descend from earlier EHX pedals. MusicRadar's review notes it pulls its algorithms and inspiration from the Oceans 11 Reverb, the Canyon delay and the pitch-shifting POG pedal families3, and Guitar Pedal X reports it combines algorithms from the Oceans, Canyon and POG pedals in its three modes8. EHX itself says it builds on shimmer concepts from the award-winning Oceans 11 Reverb pedals1.

Within the Pico Series, the closest sibling is the Pico Oceans 3-Verb, a multi-function reverb that takes the Spring, Plate and Hall reverbs from the Oceans 11 and offers them in a smaller format10. It comes from the same NYC DSP series of mini digital pedals from EHX11. The difference between the two is focus: the Oceans 3-Verb covers standard reverb types, while the Pico Shimmer is dedicated entirely to shimmer and its variations.

What reviewers said

MusicRadar's review rated the Pico Shimmer four stars out of five, finding that its three distinct scenes cover classic shimmer, synth pads and glitches with plenty of character and customization, though the reviewer noted it is sensitive and all too easy to overwhelm without careful study of the sounds3. The same review compared it with the Oceans 11, calling that pedal a key sibling inspiration and one to choose if control over a broader range of reverb settings matters more to you than shimmer specifically3.

Guitar Pedal X called it a noteworthy pedal with three variants of shimmer reverb and no fewer than eight variable parameter controls, cool for mono rigs and mini boards, while repeating the wish that it had been stereo8.

"Three distinct scenes cover classic shimmer, synth pads and glitches, all with plenty of character and customisation."

Questions

Is the Pico Shimmer stereo?

No. The Pico Shimmer is a mono pedal with a single 1/4 inch input and a single 1/4 inch output. Guitar Pedal X notes it is aimed at mini boards rather than stereo rigs, and the reviewer there wished it had been built in a stereo format.

Does the Pico Shimmer have an infinite reverb?

Yes. Pressing and holding the footswitch engages Infinite Reverb on the fly, freezing the reverb so you can keep playing over it. The TIME knob also reaches infinite decay at its maximum setting, for pad-like effects without holding the switch.

How much does the EHX Pico Shimmer cost?

The list price on the Electro-Harmonix product page is $149.00 USD. Press coverage at launch reported the same $149 price, with UK and European pricing quoted at £139 and €159 by Gearnews.

What power supply comes with the Pico Shimmer?

Electro-Harmonix includes a 9.6VDC-200mA power adapter in the box. The pedal itself draws 100mA at 9.0VDC through its 9VDC power jack, so it runs on a standard pedalboard supply as well.
