The Rainger FX Bleep Fuzz is a fuzz pedal from the London based builder Rainger FX, unveiled in March 2022. It uses the same "full-on" fuzz circuit as the company's Dr Freakenstein Fuzz, but in an enclosure about four times smaller and with more low-end. Its signature feature is the Overtone control: a resonant peak in the mid to mid-high frequencies that sets the frequency of a repeating bleep, or can be modulated by an LFO for sounds the maker described as robot alarms and rhythmical, pitch-playable pulses1.
What it does to your sound
Rainger FX describes the Bleep Fuzz as covering a wide palette: "hard chunks of uncompromising fuzz, to edgy lead tones that are guaranteed to cut through a mix", with sustain that can morph into robot alarm sounds as the signal degrades into rhythmical, proto-synthy pulses with pitch playable in real time1.
The Overtone knob is the heart of that. It is basically a resonant peak in the mid to mid-high frequencies, and it sets the frequency of the repeating bleep1.
The LFO and the Igor pad
With the LFO switched on, the Overtone is automatically modulated, producing what the maker called a slowly scything tonal movement, like an extreme phaser. With the Bleep/Fuzz knob engaged and the Igor pad pressed, the modulation speed ramps up into what Rainger described as psychotic chirping1.
The related Dwarf Bleep Bass, announced in 2017, showed the same idea applied to bass: Premier Guitar reported that its LFO modulation gave the bleeps' pitch a steady "80's arcade game" rise and fall, and that pressing Igor increased the modulation speed3.
How it compares to the Dr Freakenstein Fuzz and the Dwarf range
The Bleep Fuzz sits in a family of Rainger FX fuzzes built around the Dr Freakenstein circuit14:
| Pedal | What it is | Key difference |
|---|---|---|
| Dr Freakenstein Fuzz | The original full-on fuzz | Larger enclosure; the Bleep Fuzz adds more low-end1 |
| Bleep Fuzz | Full-on fuzz with resonant bleep and LFO | More gated, glitchy unpredictability than the Freakenstein4 |
| Dwarf Bleep Bass | Mini bass fuzz | Full-on fuzz ferocity with low frequency enhancement for bass3 |
Delicious Audio's buying guide put the relationship plainly: "the Bleep Fuzz takes the sonic characteristics of the big brother Freakenstein fuzz and adds more gated, glitchy unpredictability"4.
The Bleep Fuzz arrived just after Rainger FX discontinued its range of Dwarf pedals. The maker described the Bleep Fuzz as "a compilation of various sounds from the range of Dwarf pedals recently discontinued, but in a more usable format"1. The Dwarf Bleep Bass had earlier brought the Dwarf Bleep's 8-bit glitch weirdness to bass players3.
Background and designer
David Rainger, the company owner and designer, built the Bleep Fuzz around the circuit from his own Dr Freakenstein Fuzz, shrinking it into the much smaller enclosure and adding the front panel bleep control and on-the-fly LFO speed adjustment1. Rainger FX has continued to build on this family of fuzzes since, with releases including the Razor Fuzz and the Amp Crash collaboration with Death By Audio2.
Price
Guitar Pedal X listed the Bleep Fuzz at $169 in its April 2022 selection of mini fuzz pedals2.

Questions
Who designed the Rainger FX Bleep Fuzz?
The Bleep Fuzz was designed by David Rainger, the company owner and designer at Rainger FX, the London based builder. It was unveiled in March 2022 as a new fuzz that gathered sounds from the recently discontinued Dwarf pedal range into a single, more usable format.
How is the Bleep Fuzz different from the Dr Freakenstein Fuzz?
The Bleep Fuzz uses the same full-on fuzz circuit as the Dr Freakenstein Fuzz, but in an enclosure about four times smaller and with more low-end. Delicious Audio's buying guide describes it as taking the sonic characteristics of its big brother and adding more gated, glitchy unpredictability.
What does the LFO do on the Rainger FX Bleep Fuzz?
With the LFO on, the Overtone resonant peak is automatically modulated, producing a slowly scything tonal movement like an extreme phaser. With the Bleep/Fuzz knob engaged and the Igor pad pressed, the modulation speed ramps up into what the maker described as psychotic chirping.
What happened to the Rainger FX Dwarf pedals?
Rainger FX discontinued the Dwarf pedals range shortly before the Bleep Fuzz was unveiled in March 2022. The Bleep Fuzz is described as a compilation of various sounds from that range, repackaged in a more usable format. The Dwarf Bleep Bass had earlier carried the Dwarf Bleep's 8-bit glitch sounds to bass players.
How much does the Rainger FX Bleep Fuzz cost?
Guitar Pedal X listed the Rainger FX Bleep Fuzz at $169 in its April 2022 selection of mini fuzz pedals.
