The Singular Sound BeatBuddy 2 is a guitar pedal drum machine: a stompbox-sized unit that plays drum beats you start, stop and shape with your feet while you play. Singular Sound positions it as a live, responsive alternative to backing tracks, with real-time fills, transitions, part changes, drum breaks, accent hits, intros and outros, double and half time, a cowbell, and hands-free set list navigation1. It is the successor to the original BeatBuddy, announced in September 2025 alongside the separately available SuperSwitch foot controller.

Where a loop or a static backing track repeats exactly, Delicious Audio describes the BeatBuddy 2's aim as "solid, human-feel rhythm" rather than "robotic, predictable loops", with a library of 220+ styles across 24 genres recorded by pro drummers in 24-bit stereo2.

What the BeatBuddy 2 does

The BeatBuddy 2 is a drum pedal that plays stored drum songs, which are built from patterns played back from sampled drum sets. You press a footswitch to start a song, tap to trigger a fill or transition, and press again to end with an outro fill, the same basic interaction as the original BeatBuddy and the smaller BeatBuddy Mini 2. The point of the format is that a solo or duo player gets a drummer's dynamics without a laptop or a phone app, and without taking their hands off the instrument17.

The sound library covers 220+ styles across 24 genres, all recorded by professional drummers in 24-bit stereo2. On top of the stock content, Singular Sound says there is room for 320 drum sets and 3.2 million songs, which you can download or create yourself1. Each drum set is limited to 450MB5.

A new feature for this generation is Autopilot mode, which Delicious Audio calls the pedal's secret weapon for seamless live performances: it intelligently runs fills and transitions for you2. Instead of tapping every fill yourself, Autopilot decides when fills and transitions happen, which suits a player singing or using both hands on the guitar during a live set.

The controls and SuperSwitch

The pedal's panel controls cover volume, drum set selection, tempo, tap tempo and directional controls6. The footswitches are dual gold momentary switches, which Guitar World's reviewer found reassuringly robust, sitting at the bottom of what he calls the pedal's "quite extreme wedge shape"6.

The BeatBuddy 2 also supports the SuperSwitch, a separate six-button foot controller that Singular Sound designed to work with the pedal5. Delicious Audio notes the new multiports let you plug in both an expression pedal and the 6-button SuperSwitch at the same time2, so tempo or volume can be on an expression pedal while the SuperSwitch handles song selection and fills.

Guitar World's reviewer also commented on the build:

"The BeatBuddy 2 clearly takes the idea of being built like a tank very seriously, and is amongst the sturdiest feeling stompboxes I've tested in the past couple of years."
Matt, Guitar World6

Power and connections

The BeatBuddy 2 runs on a 9V DC power supply, which is included in the box, with a current draw of 300mA56. There is no battery option in the specifications, so it needs a pedalboard power supply or the included adapter.

Connectivity is broader than the original. Guitar World lists 2 x 1/4" TS inputs, 3 x 1/4" outputs and 2 x 1/4" TRS footswitch jacks6. The maker's specification breaks the outputs down as 2 x 1/4" mono (L/R) main audio plus a 1/4" stereo headphone output, with an adapter included5. Guitar Pedal X describes the pedal's audio as true stereo3.

On placement in a chain, Guitar World's reviewer is specific: you can run your guitar and pedals through the BeatBuddy 2 if you wish, but it needs to be at the end of the signal chain so your pedals do not affect the drum tone6. A player who wants the drums clean can instead leave the guitar chain alone and run the BeatBuddy 2 straight to the PA or a mixer.

Songs, drum sets and BeatBuddy Manager Online

Content lives on a 4GB Class 10 SD card, expandable up to 32GB5. Guitar World confirms the included 4GB card contains all the stock beats with room to add your own, and that you can upgrade the card up to 32GB if you want more6.

Managing that content is where the software comes in. The original BeatBuddy used BeatBuddy Loader and BeatBuddy Manager; the BeatBuddy 2 moves to BeatBuddy Manager Online5, which Guitar Pedal X describes as "completely reworked and improved"3. Through it you arrange songs into set lists, edit patterns and load new drum sets onto the card.

How it differs from the original BeatBuddy

Singular Sound's own comparison page frames the BeatBuddy 2 as improving on nearly every aspect of the original, and Guitar World's reviewer agrees, citing an improved screen, better usability, greater connectivity, a redesigned chassis and enhanced drum sounds6.

The enclosure is new too: a gold-accented wedge design rather than the original's box, with the dual gold momentary footswitches at its base6. The SuperSwitch support and Autopilot mode are additions the original did not have52.

For players comparing options, the BeatBuddy 2 sits at the full-featured end of the drum pedal category. Smaller and cheaper alternatives include the BeatBuddy Mini 2, the Mooer Micro Drummer and the Flamma FS01, while the DigiTech SDRUM and DigiTech Trio Band Creator take different approaches to generating accompaniment from your playing.

Questions

Where does the BeatBuddy 2 go in a pedalboard signal chain?

You can run your guitar and pedals through the BeatBuddy 2 if you want the drums and guitar on one output, but Guitar World's reviewer notes it needs to sit at the end of the signal chain so your pedals do not affect the drum tone. Otherwise you can keep it separate and feed it straight to a mixer or PA.

Can I make my own songs for the BeatBuddy 2?

Yes. Singular Sound says the BeatBuddy 2 has room for 320 drum sets and 3.2 million songs that you can download or create yourself. Songs and drum sets are managed through BeatBuddy Manager Online, which Guitar Pedal X describes as completely reworked and improved for the new pedal.

Does the BeatBuddy 2 have a headphone output?

Yes. It has a professional 1/4 inch stereo headphone output, with an adapter included, where the original BeatBuddy used a 1/8 inch jack. Delicious Audio highlights it as a silent practice option alongside the stereo main outputs.

How big an SD card does the BeatBuddy 2 take?

It ships with a 4GB Class 10 SD card holding all the stock beats plus room for your own, and the card can be upgraded up to 32GB. Each drum set is limited to 450MB maximum.

What does Autopilot mode do on the BeatBuddy 2?

Autopilot mode intelligently runs fills and transitions for you during live performances. Delicious Audio calls it the pedal's secret weapon for seamless live shows, handling the drum changes hands-free so you can focus on playing.
