Dawner Prince Electronics

The maker is best known among players for two things: rotary speaker emulators, and the Boonar family of delays built around the Binson Echorec. Its range also covers drive (the Diktator and Diktator MKII), a Uni-Vibe type phase shifter (the Viberator), and the Starla and Red Rox pedals³⁴⁵.

The range by type

• Rotary speaker emulators: Pulse (open cabinet revolving speaker emulator), Eclipsa (triple rotary speaker emulator)⁵⁶⁷
• Drum echo delays: Boonar (Binson Echorec-style), Boonar Tube Deluxe (Echorec 2 T7E replica)⁴⁸
• Drive: Diktator, Diktator MKII (two-channel), Red Rox⁹¹⁰¹¹
• Phase shifter: Viberator, a Uni-Vibe type pedal with true stereo outputs¹²¹³

Rotary speaker emulators: Pulse and Eclipsa

The Pulse is Dawner Prince Electronics' take on the sound of a rotary speaker cabinet, built by the Croatian maker of high-end effects pedals, founded in 2009². Like the rest of the company's pedals, it is designed to meet what the maker describes as "the highest standards of sound, reliability, and design"². The press framed it around the revolving speakers associated with classic rotary tones⁶.

The Eclipsa is the company's larger step into rotary speaker emulation, a stereo pedal that runs on any good quality, regulated 9V DC power supply with a center-negative tip⁷¹⁴¹. Dawner Prince advises against Radio Shack or multi-voltage "universal" adapters for its pedals¹. Both the Pulse and the Eclipsa run on 9V DC¹⁵¹⁴.

The Boonar delays

The Boonar is an effects pedal designed, in the maker's words, "to deliver sound and feel of the legendary original Binson Echorec," the multi-tap magnetic drum echo unit. Dawner Prince says it shares the same analog signal path as the original Echorec, using high-voltage driven FETs as tube emulators⁴.

The Boonar Tube Deluxe goes further, replicating the Binson Echorec 2 model T7E, a four-tap tube magnetic drum echo unit originally manufactured in Italy during the 1960s⁸. Both are part of the maker's delay pedal territory, and both run on 9V DC⁴⁸.

Drive, vibe and the rest of the range

The Diktator MKII is a two-channel drive pedal⁹, and the Diktator, Red Rox and Starla all accept 9 to 18V, giving players the option of higher headroom from an 18V supply¹¹⁶⁹. The Viberator is described by the maker as the most compact vibe pedal with true stereo outputs, a Uni-Vibe type phase shifter in the vintage tradition¹²¹³. It runs on 9V DC, center negative¹³.

Powering Dawner Prince pedals

The maker recommends any good quality, regulated 9V DC power supply with a center-negative tip, and warns against Radio Shack or multi-voltage "universal" adapters¹. The Diktator, Red Rox and Starla can accept up to 18V DC, with the same quality requirements applying to those supplies¹.

Warranty, shipping and B-stock

Dawner Prince warrants its products for two years from the date of purchase against failures from defective parts or faulty workmanship. The warranty process works as follows¹:

1. The customer pays the shipping cost to send the pedal to Dawner Prince Electronics in Croatia.
2. Dawner Prince repairs or replaces the unit under warranty.
3. The company pays for shipping back to the customer.

Orders usually ship within 2 days after payment is received, via International Airmail Registered (Croatian Post), DHL or FedEx Express courier¹. The company occasionally has a limited number of B-stock items, available on request rather than as a standing catalog category¹.

Artists

Dawner Prince is a small company and states plainly that it cannot pay artists to use its products. It does run an Artist Endorsement program that provides discounts on its pedals¹.
