The Mirror House V2 is a pitch-shifting pedal from Electronic Audio Experiments, released in May 2025 through a collaboration with the Boston indie band Pile1. Instead of shifting your whole signal up or down by one interval, it creates two pitch-shifted copies of the incoming signal that veer off in equal and opposite directions: one voice climbs, the other drops, symmetrically away from the original12.
The results cover a wide range. Delicious Audio describes the output as running "from subtle detuning and chorus to bizarre microtonal clusters, dissonant harmonies, and dynamic glissandos"1. Because the two voices respond to your playing dynamics through envelope control, the pedal can produce dynamic vibrato, glissando and divebomb effects as the voices are pulled apart2.
Two pitch shifts moving in opposite directions
The core idea is the symmetric split. The Amount knob controls the amount of static pitch shifting, and turning it clockwise moves the two voices symmetrically away from the original signal, the upper voice up and the lower voice down2. In Shift mode the Amount knob dials in 13 different intervals, from Unison through minor 2nd, Major 2nd, minor 3rd and onward up to plus one octave3.
Pitch shifts can be applied statically or dynamically depending on the selected mode1. With envelope control in play, harder playing pulls the voices further apart, which is what gives the pedal its dynamic vibrato, glissando and divebomb behavior2.
The modes and controls
The V2 carries five controls: Mix, Amount, Mode, Voices and Animate4.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Mix | Balance between dry and pitch-shifted signals; fully clockwise removes the dry signal entirely12 |
| Amount | Degree of shift / pitch separation; clockwise moves the two voices symmetrically away from the original24 |
| Mode | Selects Shift, Flutter or Detune14 |
| Voices | Sets the pitch voices4 |
| Animate | Additive modulation and oscillation3 |
The Mix knob is worth noting for how far it goes: at the maximum setting no dry signal is present, so the pedal can act as a complete transformation of your sound rather than a layer on top of it12.
The three modes set the character of the shifting1:
- Shift: static interval-based shifting, 13 intervals from Unison to plus one octave3
- Flutter: the mode new to Version 2, working with the Animate control's modulation and oscillation23
- Detune: leans into the pedal's loose, warbly delivery for detuning and chorus-like effects13
Guitar Pedal X's Stefan Karlsson characterized the pitch modulation as "a deliberately imprecise, warbly and deliberately loose and laggy delivery", leaning into detuning and instability rather than clean, transparent shifting3.
"This is a really interesting new pitch-modulation circuit - a tiny bit reminiscent of EQD's Rainbow Machine - but it's s"
Version 2 and the Pile signature edition
Version 2 is a set of focused updates over the original Mirror House. The new additions are the Flutter mode, improved envelope sensitivity, improved envelope tracking for the Shift and Detune modes, and a reduced noise floor compared to Version 112. The V2 also updates the bypass to use a relay2.
Version 2 of the Mirror House adds two improvements over the original release: improved envelope sensitivity and lower noise1. The Signature edition carries an Animate control, labeled Additive Modulation / Oscillation, alongside the same circuit3. Both pedals come from Boston's Electronic Audio Experiments3.
The manual includes a set of suggested settings that maps out the pedal's range: Detune, Disorient, Vibrato, Stacked Harmonies and Divebomb3. At subtle settings that range starts with gentle detuning and chorus, and at the far end it reaches microtonal clusters and dynamic glissandos1.

Questions
What are the three modes on the Mirror House V2?
The three modes are Shift, Flutter and Detune. Shift applies static pitch shifting in 13 intervals from Unison up to plus one octave. Detune leans into the pedal's loose, warbly character for chorus-like thickening, and Flutter is the new mode added in Version 2, driving the voices with modulation and oscillation.
Can the Mirror House V2 remove the dry signal?
Yes. The Mix knob sets the balance between the dry and pitch-shifted signals, and turning it fully clockwise removes the dry signal entirely, leaving only the two shifted voices. That makes it usable as a full transformation rather than just a layering effect.
What is different about the Pile signature Mirror House?
The V2 Signature edition is a collaboration between Electronic Audio Experiments and Boston indie band Pile, priced at $249 when announced in May 2025. It carries the same V2 circuit, with the new Flutter mode, improved envelope tracking for Shift and Detune, and a reduced noise floor compared to Version 1.
Is the Mirror House V2 a polyphonic pitch shifter?
No. It is not described as a polyphonic shifter. It creates two pitch-shifted copies of the incoming signal that veer off in equal and opposite directions, and its character is deliberately imprecise and warbly rather than the clean tracking of a polyphonic unit.
What does the Mirror House do at subtle settings?
At low Amount settings it produces subtle detuning and chorus-like thickening. The manual's suggested settings also include Detune, Disorient, Vibrato, Stacked Harmonies and Divebomb, so the same pedal covers gentle widening through to extreme pitch effects.
