The "Pickle Freak" Double Dreamer is a dual overdrive pedal from JAM Pedals that puts two of the company's Tube Screamer-style circuits, the Lucydreamer and the Tubedreamer, in a single enclosure. It carries three footswitches, one for each circuit plus an assignable high-gain stage, and it can run as one pedal in a chain or be split apart so each circuit lives somewhere else on the board. The Pickle Freak is a limited artwork edition: JAM Pedals states the sound is the same as the standard Double Dreamer and only the artwork differs, and every limited artwork pedal is a one-of-a-kind hand-painted piece1.
The pedal draws 110 mA at 9V DC, center-negative, so plan your power supply accordingly: a low-current daisy-chain output may not be enough.
Controls and footswitches
Each side of the pedal has its own set of knobs, and the three footswitches sit between them1.
| Section | Controls |
|---|---|
| Lucydreamer | Level, Tone, Gain and a clean/drive Mix knob |
| Tubedreamer | Level, Tone and Gain |
| Footswitches | Lucydreamer, HIGH GAIN and Tubedreamer |
The clean/drive Mix knob on the Lucydreamer side is the control the Tubedreamer side does not have, letting you blend clean and driven signal on that circuit1.
The HIGH GAIN footswitch
The middle footswitch is a shared high-gain stage rather than a third circuit. A three-way toggle routes it to the Tubedreamer, the Lucydreamer or both, and separate internal trimmers set the high-gain output level for each circuit, so the boost can be balanced against whichever side it feeds1.
Default and Independent Y modes
Out of the box, the pedal runs as a single chain: input, then the Lucydreamer, then the Tubedreamer, then output1.
Independent Y mode changes what the jacks do. It converts the IN and OUT jacks into breakout points for the two circuits, allowing switcher control, separate signal-chain placement or parallel stereo use. Two TRS-to-dual-TS insert cables are required to wire it up1.
The Tubedreamer circuit
JAM Pedals describes the Tubedreamer side as "a warm, rich 808-style overdrive built around the JRC4558D chip and three-diode asymmetrical clipping," with a tuned midrange that "cuts through while remaining touch-sensitive"1. The same circuit appears on its own in the TubeDreamer, and JAM Pedals has since released the Tubedreamer Screamer MK2, which moves the high-gain function to a second footswitch2.
