The JAM Pedals "Glisten" Double Dreamer is a dual overdrive pedal: two of the maker's drive circuits, the Tubedreamer and the Lucydreamer, built into one enclosure1. It runs on 9V DC center-negative power and draws 110 mA1, and it is listed at £389.00 GBP1. The enclosure measures 13 x 10 x 5.1 cm / 5.1 x 3.9 x 2 in including jacks and controls, and the pedal weighs 430 g / 0.95 lb1.

The 110 mA current draw means the Double Dreamer needs its own power supply output on most pedalboard power bricks; a daisy chain shared with low-draw pedals is unlikely to have the headroom. The price is listed in pounds sterling on the maker's site, not US dollars.

Two overdrives: Tubedreamer and Lucydreamer

The two sides are different circuits with different jobs. JAM Pedals describes the Tubedreamer side as "a warm, rich 808-style overdrive built around the JRC4558D chip and three-diode asymmetrical clipping", with a tuned midrange that cuts through while staying touch-sensitive1. That puts it in the Tube Screamer family of overdrives; if you want to see how that design compares across makers, the Overdrive Pedals page and the Boss SD-1 vs Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer comparison cover the wider field, and the standalone JAM Pedals TubeDreamer has its own page.

The Lucydreamer side is a dry/wet overdrive. JAM describes it as having less of a mid hump, extended low end and a wide gain range, with the Mix control blending clean and driven signals to preserve attack and chord definition1. In practice that is the side you reach for when you want the low strings and pick attack to stay intact under drive. The standalone JAM Pedals "Achenbach" Lucydreamer carries the same circuit on its own.

Routing, footswitches and the high-gain stage

Out of the box, the signal runs input to Lucydreamer to Tubedreamer to output, so the 808-style side sits last in the chain1. Three footswitches sit on the top row: Lucydreamer, HIGH GAIN and Tubedreamer1.

The middle HIGH GAIN switch is the pedal's third voice. A three-way toggle routes it to the Tubedreamer, the Lucydreamer or both, and separate internal trimmers set the high-gain output level for each circuit1. That means you can preset a louder boost for each side independently and bring either one up with the same switch.

For players using a loop switcher, an Independent Y mode converts the IN and OUT jacks into breakout points for the two circuits. That allows switcher control, separate signal-chain placement or parallel stereo use. Two TRS-to-dual-TS insert cables are required to wire it that way1.

The custom artwork editions

The "Glisten" is one of a series of Double Dreamers that differ only in enclosure art. JAM Pedals lists the custom artwork versions as "Glisten", "Bulbotron", "Mosquito", "Sticky Icky", "Tree Of Life" and "Achenbach", alongside "Pickle Freak" and "Relic"1. The maker's own wording across the edition pages is "Same sound, different artwork"23.

Every custom artwork pedal is a one-of-a-kind hand-painted piece, and JAM notes that the pedal you receive will differ in detail from the photos shown1. If you are choosing between editions, the difference is what is on the box, not what is in it. Other editions have their own pages: "Bulbotron", "Tree Of Life", "Relic", "Pickle Freak", "Sticky Icky", "Mosquito" and "Achenbach", alongside the standard JAM Pedals Double Dreamer.

Questions

Is the JAM Double Dreamer true bypass?

Yes. JAM Pedals lists the "Glisten" Double Dreamer with true bypass, so when the pedal is off your signal passes straight through without going through either overdrive circuit. That matters on a pedalboard where you want the pedal out of the path entirely when both sides are disengaged.

Do the JAM Double Dreamer artwork versions sound different?

No. JAM Pedals describes the custom artwork editions of the Double Dreamer, including "Glisten", "Bulbotron", "Tree Of Life" and others, as the same sound with different artwork. The choice between them is visual and collectible, not tonal. Each one is hand painted, so the pedal you receive differs in detail from the photos shown.

What chip is in the JAM Double Dreamer?

The Tubedreamer side of the Double Dreamer is built around the JRC4558D chip with three-diode asymmetrical clipping, the arrangement behind the classic 808-style overdrive sound. The Lucydreamer side is a separate dry/wet overdrive design with its own Mix control rather than a copy of that circuit.

Can I use the two sides of the Double Dreamer separately?

Yes. Beyond the default series routing, an Independent Y mode converts the IN and OUT jacks into breakout points for the two circuits. That allows switcher control, separate placement in your signal chain, or parallel stereo use. You need two TRS-to-dual-TS insert cables to wire it up this way.

What does the high gain footswitch do on the Double Dreamer?

The middle HIGH GAIN footswitch is assignable. A three-way toggle routes it to the Tubedreamer, the Lucydreamer, or both at once, and separate internal trimmers set the high-gain output level for each circuit. That lets you set one boost level for each side and call either up from the same switch.
