The Mooer Purer Octave is a compact polyphonic octave pedal from MOOER Audio, offering 15 different octave effect combinations plus one detune effect. Because it is polyphonic, it can build octave voices under full chords rather than single notes, and the detune mode adds a slightly shifted second voice for thickening a sound. It arrived in August 2023 and is, as Delicious Audio's Paolo De Gregorio put it, "in essence, V2 of the Chinese company's old mini, multi-mode polyphinic octave pedal, the Pure Octave."12

Controls and modes

The layout is simple. A big rotary knob in the middle selects among the 15 octave-related effects, and two smaller knobs on top fine-tune the volume of the Sub and Upper octaves. MOOER describes these as independent "SUB" and "UPPER" dials for isolated sub and upper octave voices, so the two frequency bands can be isolated or combined dynamically.12

Presets and how it processes your signal

The three-way toggle switch gives you a real-time effect mode and two preset slots, so you can store two settings and switch among the three positions live. Saving is done through the push button placed on top of the footswitch.12

Under the hood this is a digital design. MOOER says the DSP algorithm separates the high and low input frequencies to ensure every preset operates seamlessly without spectral artifacts or distortions, a description Delicious Audio repeated in its launch report.12

Power, connections and size

The pedal runs on a 9V DC center negative supply and draws 120mA, which is worth noting when planning a board: a low-current daisy-chain output may not cover it on its own1.

Current draw is 120mA at 9V DC center negative. Give the Purer Octave its own supply output rather than sharing one with several pedals.1

Questions

Is the Mooer Purer Octave analog or digital?

It is a digital pedal. MOOER says a DSP algorithm separates the high and low input frequencies so that every preset operates seamlessly without spectral artifacts or distortions. That processing is what lets the pedal track full chords rather than single notes, which is the main difference from older octave circuits that only handle one note at a time.

Does the Purer Octave work with chords?

Yes. MOOER describes it as a polyphonic octave pedal, meaning it can generate octave voices across all the notes of a chord at once. The maker says the DSP algorithm separates the high and low input frequencies to keep every one of the 15 octave effect modes working cleanly, without spectral artifacts or distortions.

How do you save a preset on the Purer Octave?

The pedal has a three-way toggle switch that selects between a real-time effect mode and two preset slots. To store a setting, you use the push button placed on top of the footswitch, according to Delicious Audio's report on the pedal. Once saved, the toggle lets you switch between your two stored presets and the live mode during a performance.

Can the Purer Octave run on a battery?

MOOER specifies a 9V DC center negative power supply with a current draw of 120mA. That draw is higher than many compact pedals use, so a battery is not part of the specification, and a standard low-current daisy-chain output may not be enough on its own. Plan a dedicated 9V DC center negative supply output for it.

What is the difference between the Purer Octave and the Pure Octave?

The Purer Octave is, in essence, a V2 of MOOER's older Pure Octave, the company's mini multi-mode polyphonic octave pedal, as Paolo De Gregorio of Delicious Audio put it when the Purer Octave was announced in August 2023. The Purer Octave carries the concept forward with 15 octave effect modes plus a detune effect and two storable presets.
