The TC Electronic Hall Of Fame Mini is a compact digital reverb pedal introduced in October 2013 as a follow-up to the full-size Hall of Fame. It comes preloaded with TC Electronic's hall reverb sound and fits the company's TonePrint system into an enclosure MusicRadar called "one of the most compact reverb pedals on the market," small enough that the full pedal name does not fit on it12.

The idea behind the pedal, as TC Electronic framed it at launch, was "delivering TC Electronic's most famous reverbs and all reverb TonePrints to a miniature form factor, with no compromise"2. For a player, that means a single-knob pedal that sounds like a hall reverb out of the box but can be revoiced as a spring, room, plate or cathedral, or loaded with an artist's signature setting, through the free TonePrint app.

What it does: a hall reverb in a mini pedal

By default the pedal is loaded with what MusicRadar's Mike Astley-Brown called "a lush hall setting," and the effect is digital while the dry guitar signal stays analog. That analog dry-through design, which TC Electronic specified at launch, means the untouched portion of the signal never passes through conversion, and Astley-Brown found it "ensures your guitar's natural tone still shines through" even at high reverb levels1.

The Mini is a shrunken version of the Hall of Fame, which Guitar World described as TC's "legendary and versatile hall reverb" unit with a wider range of reverb types, including spring, hall, church, tile and ambient, as Premier Guitar's reviewer noted35. The Mini gives up that front-panel selection of voices but keeps access to the sounds through TonePrint, so the trade is knob count and I/O against footprint.

One knob and TonePrint editing

The pedal has a single knob, which Guitar World's 2013 review described as controlling reverb level3. What makes that workable is TonePrint, TC Electronic's system for loading complete effect settings into a pedal. MusicRadar reports the Mini "boasts TC's innovative TonePrint technology" and loads full-sized Hall Of Fame settings along with artist-programmed TonePrints1.

The editing works two ways:

  • TonePrint app: TC's announcement listed spring, room, plate, cathedral and signature artist reverb TonePrints available in the TonePrint app, ready to beam to the pedal2.
  • TonePrint Editor: the knob's assigned parameter is user-assignable, so a player building a custom reverb can decide what that one control adjusts1.

For comparison, the full-size Hall of Fame puts decay, tone and effect level on separate knobs, with a fourth control for selecting its reverb voices, as described in reviews of that pedal6. The later Hall of Fame 2 Mini moved to three knobs, decay, tone and level, an upgrade Guitar World's Trevor Curwen noted when reviewing that pedal7.

Power and connections

The Mini runs on a nine-volt power supply1. Premier Guitar's reviewer found "there's no room for a battery inside, so the HOF must run off a 9-volt power supply," and located the barrel-style 9-volt jack beneath the mini-USB jack used to download TonePrints5.

No battery option. Unlike the full-size Hall of Fame, which MusicRadar found can run from a 9V battery, the Mini's enclosure leaves no room for one, so it needs a powered pedalboard or its own adapter5.

On the question of stereo, the reviews differ: Guitar World's 2013 review listed "true-bypass switching, stereo I/Os and a single knob for reverb level"3, while MusicRadar's review states "mono operation only"1. Players who need stereo outputs have a clear path in the family: TC Electronic lists the Hall of Fame 2 with stereo in and out, and the Hall Of Fame 2 X4 with both mono and stereo outputs.

History and versions

TC Electronic announced the Hall Of Fame Mini Reverb on October 2, 2013, as the follow-up to what the company called its "smash hit Hall Of Fame Reverb pedal"2. The circuit builds on the platform TC Electronic had already used for its Ditto Looper and PolyTune Mini, the enclosure style behind the Mini line2. At launch it was available immediately at $109 MAP in the US, with European pricing of 109 euros SSP and UK pricing of 95 pounds SSP28.

The Mini line continued in December 2019 with the Hall of Fame 2 Mini, which TC Electronic introduced alongside the Flashback 2 Mini delay. The maker describes the first HOF Mini as "an instant hit," adding that "to this day, so much tone in such a small and simple package is a rare thing"49. The Hall of Fame 2 Mini kept the small format but moved from one knob to three, added a MASH footswitch for real-time parameter control, and made bypass selectable between true and buffered via the TonePrint app47.

What reviewers said

MusicRadar's verdict on the original Mini was positive for its target player: "For those short on 'board space and keen on computer-based editing, this is an outstanding compact 'verb"1. The same review flagged the mono operation and the single control as the costs of the small enclosure1.

Guitar World's 2013 review emphasized the pedal's purpose, describing it as "a tiny version of that unit, designed to take up minimal real estate on your pedal board" while preserving the original tone with analog dry-through routing3. Premier Guitar's reviewer, revisiting the pedal in 2023, noted the $109 street price and the absence of a battery compartment5.

Questions

Does the Hall Of Fame Mini take a battery?

No. Premier Guitar's reviewer found there is no room for a battery inside, so the pedal has to run off a 9-volt power supply5. That is one of the trade-offs of the tiny enclosure, and it means the pedal needs a spot on a powered pedalboard or its own adapter.

Is the Hall Of Fame Mini true bypass?

Yes. Both TC Electronic's announcement and Guitar World's review describe true-bypass switching, so when the pedal is off the guitar signal passes through without active circuitry in the path23. The pedal also uses analog dry-through routing, which keeps the dry signal analog even when the reverb is on23.

Is the Hall Of Fame Mini stereo?

Sources disagree. Guitar World's 2013 review lists stereo I/Os on the pedal3, while MusicRadar's review states mono operation only1. Players who need stereo reverb should weigh both reports, or consider the Hall of Fame 2, which TC Electronic lists with stereo in and out1011.

Can the Hall Of Fame Mini load TonePrints from the full-size Hall Of Fame?

Yes. MusicRadar reports the Mini boasts TC's TonePrint technology and loads full-sized Hall Of Fame settings and artist-programmed TonePrints1. TC's announcement said spring, room, plate, cathedral and signature artist reverb TonePrints are all available in the TonePrint app for the Mini2.

What can the single knob on the Hall Of Fame Mini control?

Out of the box the one knob sets reverb level, as Guitar World's review describes3. Through the TonePrint Editor the knob's assigned parameter is user-assignable, so a player can set it to control a different reverb parameter inside a custom TonePrint, then save that sound to the pedal1.
