The Cunningham Amps Dual Range Fuzz RCA Germanium is a handmade fuzz pedal from New Zealand, built around germanium transistors and a circuit based on the MK 1.6 of the Tone Bender, the vintage fuzz design from the 1960s. Delicious Audio describes its range as going "from soft to sonic destruction", from boosted clean tones to what the site calls "searing fuzzed out mayhem"1.
What it does
The Dual Range Fuzz is a fuzz pedal in the Tone Bender tradition. Two controls shape the sound1:
At low Attack settings the pedal works as a clean boost, and as the control is turned up it moves into full fuzz. Delicious Audio characterizes the range as going "from soft to sonic destruction"1. Custom options are available from the maker1.
Power and the positive ground warning
The pedal runs on battery power and also includes a DC power socket1. The germanium version needs special care:
The germanium version has a positive ground and must be used with the battery or an isolated power supply. Do not daisy chain it with negative ground pedals, which includes most modern effects.
That matters on any pedalboard with a shared supply: the Dual Range Fuzz needs its own isolated output or a battery, and cannot share a daisy chain lead with the rest of a board1.
What reviewers said
Daniel Steinhardt, of That Pedal Show, picked the pedal among his top stompboxes in a 2025 Guitar World interview, saying "this is my favorite fuzz pedal in recent memory." He added that it "sounds great with humbuckers and single coils" and praised the build quality as "second to none overall"2. He noted that Cunningham, an amp company in New Zealand, "sent us a bunch of stuff to try"2.
