The Mooer E7 is a polyphonic guitar synth pedal in a mini stompbox format. Plug your guitar into it and it converts what you play into electronic synthesizer tones, tracking chords as well as single notes, with no special pickup or instrument modification required12. It arrived in late 2019 as the second pedal in Mooer's New Micro Series, and Delicious Audio described it as the first synth pedal of its kind in a mini format23.

The name E7 comes from its seven custom Mooer synth tones, each with its own arpeggiator, and the pedal saves up to seven user presets14. It is built on the synth engine of Mooer's flagship GE300 multi-effects unit, so the sounds come from the same engine that powers that larger floorboard5.

A palm-sized polyphonic synth for guitar

The E7's main draw is polyphony in a tiny box. Most synth pedals at the affordable end of the market are monophonic, tracking one note at a time, while polyphonic conversion has usually demanded either a larger unit or a MIDI-equipped guitar with a divided pickup. The E7 does it with a standard guitar straight into the input24.

Guitar World's mini pedal buying guide summed it up as "a polyphonic synth with an arpeggiator that fits in the palm of your hand"7. MusicRadar's Jonathan Horsley noted the pedal is a similar size and format to Mooer's Tone Capture GTR pedal, and that its voices run from "classic trumpet and organ-like effects" through synth ambience to an "8-bit setting reminiscent of classic video game soundtracks"4.

Delicious Audio lists the synth types as Trumpet, Organ, Sea wave, Weeyo, Saw wave, 8bits, EDM and Pad2. MusicRadar describes the seven voices as analog synth types4.

The controls: modes, presets and mix

The front panel is minimal. Seven LEDs on the left side of the pedal show which patch is selected, and four knobs on top edit it: Attack, Speed, High Cut and Low Cut6. The Attack and Speed controls adjust the arpeggiator's values, while High Cut and Low Cut shape the frequency range of the tone15.

ControlWhat it does
AttackSets the attack of the tone and the arpeggiator15
SpeedSets the speed of the arpeggiator15
High CutRolls off high frequencies in the patch2
Low CutRolls off low frequencies in the patch2
MixBlends your clean guitar signal with the synth5
SaveStores the edited sound, per sound or preset15

The mix knob blends your clean signal in with the synth, so you can keep some of your original guitar tone underneath5. Guitar World's guide found the attack, speed, mix and EQ settings help you dial in a patch, though it noted the pedal sounds best with the mix dimed7.

Saving works per preset rather than globally: the Save button stores the sound you have edited into the selected slot, so each of the seven voices keeps its own settings15.

Built on the GE300 synth engine

The E7 is based on the synth engine of Mooer's flagship GE300 multi-effect5. That engine was a headline feature of the GE300: MusicRadar's review of the unit said "more exploratory guitarists will love the fully featured polyphonic synth, too"8.

The engine's standing in the range shows in what came later. When Mooer downsized the GE300 into the GE300 Lite, the synth engine was one of the features that did not make the cut, which makes the E7 the small-format way into those sounds5.

The E7 gives you the GE300's synth engine on its own. It is a synth pedal, not a multi-effects unit, so amp modeling, IRs and the rest of the GE300's feature set are not part of the package.

What reviewers said

Coverage at launch was positive about the concept and more mixed on the voice selection. gearnews.com's Jef questioned the trumpet patch5:

"It seems an odd choice and I'm sure there are other sounds most guitarists would have found more useful."5

Guitar World's buying guide took a more favorable view, listing the E7's polyphony, seven modes, built-in arpeggiator and lack of any special pickup or cable requirement as strengths, with no listed downsides at its price7.

Price and availability

When MusicRadar covered the pedal's wider availability in 2022, the price was still to be confirmed, with the expectation of around £/$994. Guitar World later listed it at £69 or €999. The pedal is available through the usual dealers4.

Questions

Is the Mooer E7 Synth polyphonic?

Yes. The E7 is a polyphonic guitar synth pedal, meaning it tracks and converts more than one note at a time rather than only single lines. Delicious Audio described it as the first polyphonic synth pedal in a mini format when Mooer announced it.

How many presets can the Mooer E7 Synth save?

Seven. The pedal has 7 slots for storing user presets, and a Save button writes your edited sound. Storing is per sound or preset rather than global, so each of the seven synth voices keeps its own saved settings.

Does the Mooer E7 Synth need a special pickup?

No. Delicious Audio notes that the E7 transforms your guitar into an electronic synthesizer without the need for special pickups or instrument modifications. You plug straight in with a standard guitar cable.

How big is the Mooer E7 Synth?

Mooer lists the dimensions as 93.5mm deep, 42mm wide and 52mm high, which Guitar World rounds to roughly 2 by 1.6 by 3.68 inches. It is part of Mooer's Micro Series of mini pedals and fits in the palm of your hand.

Does the Mooer E7 have an arpeggiator?

Yes. Each of the seven synth tones has its own arpeggiator, and both the Speed and Attack values of the arpeggiator can be adjusted with the designated rotary controls on the top of the pedal.

How much does the Mooer E7 Synth cost?

When MusicRadar covered the pedal's wider availability in 2022, the price was still to be confirmed, with the expectation of around £/$99. Guitar World later listed it at £69 or €99. Prices vary by dealer and date.
