The mini pedal line grew out of custom work done over the years by pickdropper, one of the company's founders1.

Mini pedals in small batches

Function f(x) describes its mini pedal line as "a line of mini pedals built in 1590A-sized enclosures," with models built in small batches on a rotating basis rather than held in continuous stock1. For a player, that means a given model may be unavailable between production runs, but every mini pedal carries the company's full warranty and support1.

The mini enclosures measure 3.6" x 1.5" x 1.2" (92.5 x 38.5 x 31 mm) across the models whose dimensions the maker publishes4567. Full-size pedals use a larger box: the Parallax measures 4.7" x 3.7" x 1.4" (12cm x 9.4cm x 3.6cm)8.

Beyond the minis, the range includes the Clusterfuzz and Clusterfuzz Jr. fuzzes4910, the Third Rail dual overdrive, which puts two overdrive circuits in one box9, the Gate Crasher octave fuzz, and the Accufunkture, which carries an internal trimmer for setting output volume at unity or as a slight boost10.

Founder pickdropper and custom work

The custom work behind the company is credited to pickdropper, one of Function f(x)'s founders, whose one-off builds over the years led to the mini pedal line1. The maker links to pickdropper's Instagram account, @pickdropper, from its mini pedals page1.

The Cannon and Toronzo Cannon

The Cannon dual fuzz is the company's signature collaboration. Function f(x) states the pedal "was conceived by, created for, and named after Chicago-area bluesman Toronzo Cannon"3, and that Toronzo chose the company to design and produce a pedal capturing his ideal tone for studio and live use11.

The Cannon is a 2-in-1 mashup of two classic fuzz circuits, an Octavia side and an AstroTone side, with top mounted jacks312. In its Flip-Flop mode, the right footswitch toggles between the Octavia and AstroTone sides, the left footswitch is master bypass, and only one channel is active at a time12. Gary Clark Jr. called it one of his "go-to" pedals in 202413.

For players wanting a more vintage-like octave fuzz, the maker points from the Gate Crasher to the Cannon as its signature pedal in that vein14.

Warranty, repairs, returns and support

All Function f(x) pedals are warrantied against defective parts and workmanship for 1 year from the date of purchase2. The warranty does not cover damage caused by user error, such as plugging in the wrong power supply or submersion in liquids2. During the warranty period the company covers the repair, minus shipping to and from the repair location2.

After the first year, the company still repairs its pedals, though repairs may then incur a fee to cover parts and/or labor2. No costs are asked for upfront15.

  • Repair lead time: a full PCB replacement may take as long as 4-6 weeks if critical parts are out of stock and need to be ordered2
  • Returns (direct purchase): full refund if you contact the company within 7 days of delivery, the pedal is in like-new, unused condition with all original packaging, and you cover return shipping2
  • Returns (dealer purchase): contact the dealer or retailer and arrange the return with them2
  • Support: support@function-fx.com, usually answered within 24 hours2
