Kirk Hammett announced that he had a new signature Dunlop Cry Baby wah pedal in the works, his second signature Cry Baby, with the pedal available from April 1, 2022. A limited number of pedals signed by Hammett were set to hit on the same date¹.

The new pedal, which Dunlop later listed as the Kirk Hammett Collection Cry Baby Wah, delivered what the maker called "the heavy metal legend's signature wah tones in a special edition" purple sparkle finish². Hammett said the look and sound were inspired by one of his own guitars:

He added:

The pedal is a signature wah based on Hammett's own Cry Baby Rack Wah settings, the same basis as his original Dunlop Kirk Hammett Cry Baby³. That first signature model, developed in close collaboration with Hammett, was tuned to capture what Dunlop described as his "thick top end and full dynamic range"⁴. Gearnews later reported that, apart from the new purple sparkle aesthetics, the KH95X model was the same as the previously released Dunlop Kirk Hammett Signature Wah⁵.

Key points from the announcement:

• Second signature Cry Baby wah for the Metallica guitarist¹
• Purple sparkle finish inspired by his purple sparkle Ouija guitar¹
• Available from April 1, 2022¹
• Limited number of signed pedals available on the same date¹
• Circuit based on Hammett's Cry Baby Rack Wah settings, like the original KH95⁶

Dunlop listed the original KH95 at $209.99⁷⁸. The KH95 runs on 9 volts DC with a 4 mA current draw and a hardwire bypass, with a maximum gain of +21 dB at 1.4 kHz to 1.8 kHz toe down⁹. Dunlop has since marked the Kirk Hammett Collection Cry Baby Wah as a legacy product that is no longer in production².
