Reuss Plasmatron Stuart Braithwaite Signature Pedal

Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite Creates Signature Drive With Reuss Effects Leave a comment

Mogwai frontman Stuart Braithwaite has partnered with Reuss Effects for the signature Plasmatron dirt stompbox, inspired by an op-amp-based Big Muff and Danelectro Fab Tone distortion.

Per Reuss Effects, “The Mogwai front man is well known for his use of the obscure 1990s Danelectro Fab Tone distortion as his main dirt pedal. The Reuss Plasmatron pairs a Fab Tone based circuit up with an opamp Big M**f based circuit in parallel to vastly expand the sonic possibilities.”

Both circuits incorporate a few edits and are adjustable via seven control knobs for Mix, Bass, Level, Treble, Distortion, Fuzz Tone, and Fuzz Intensity.

An internal switch that minimizes the input signal level expands the gain range available from the Fab Tone. Meaning, engaging this switch gives the Distortion dial a more extensive sweep, from light drive to all-out distortion. That is different from the original 1990s unit, which, as Reuss puts it, is “pretty much full-on all the way of the range of the distortion control.”

Meanwhile, the Big Muff comes with an internal Tight switch that lowers some of the bottom end flabbiness typical in Muff-esque circuits.

Sporting graphic design by Aidan Moffat, the Plasmatron Stuart Braithwaite Signature drive is available to preorder for €199.95. Shipping starts in autumn of this year.
