EarthQuaker Devices Upgrades the Afterneath to V3

EarthQuaker Devices announced an upgraded version of the Afterneath, its reverb and delay effects pedal, bringing the pedal to V3. The pedal, which the maker calls its "otherworldly reverberation machine," has been a favorite ambience tool for guitarists since the original Afterneath's release in 2014¹.

The Afterneath creates its effects using multiple delay lines that can be drawn tightly together for traditional reverb styles or scattered to produce a cascade of delays¹. The Length control sets the reverb's decay rate¹. Like earlier versions, the pedal is built in the USA¹.

V3 keeps all the standard features that were on previous versions of the pedal, including the Afterneath V2, and adds three new ones¹:

• An expression input, so the Drag control can be swept with an expression or control-voltage (CV) pedal¹
• A Modes control¹
• Tails or No Tails operation, letting the effect either continue after bypass or cut off immediately¹

The pedal's input, output and expression jacks sit alongside a power jack for a 9-volt DC supply, which is not included with the pedal¹.

The announcement followed a period of continued attention on the Afterneath line. EarthQuaker Devices had previously given the pedal a retrospective makeover, and the pedal has appeared in roundups of ambient and shoegaze reverb pedals².

Premier Guitar reviewed the Afterneath V3, examining how the new expression and Modes features work in practice on a pedalboard³. GuitarPlayer's review covered the same additions, noting that the expression input opens the Drag control to real-time control from an expression pedal or a CV source¹.
